Chat History
Every conversation with the AI agent is automatically saved. Browse, restore, or delete previous sessions from the history panel.
Automatic saving
Conversations are saved automatically after each agent turn. You don't need to do anything. Your work is preserved by default. Each conversation is stored as a separate task with its own messages and metadata.
What's saved
Each saved conversation includes:
- All messages (both your prompts and the AI's responses)
- A summary based on your first message
- Timestamps (created and last updated)
- Token count estimate
Image attachments are stripped from saved conversations to reduce storage usage.
History panel
Click the clock icon in the chat header to open the history panel. It shows all your previous conversations sorted by most recent:
- Summary: The first 120 characters of your opening message
- Time: Relative timestamp (e.g., “2h ago”, “just now”)
- Tokens: Estimated token usage for the conversation
- Active indicator: A blue dot marks the currently loaded conversation
Restoring a conversation
Click any conversation in the history panel to restore it. All messages are loaded back into the chat, and you can continue where you left off. The AI retains the full context of the previous conversation.
Starting a new conversation
Click the New Chat button in the chat header to start a fresh conversation. The previous conversation is automatically saved and can be accessed from the history panel at any time.
Deleting conversations
In the history panel, click the trash icon next to any conversation to delete it permanently. This removes all saved messages for that session.
Session persistence
When you close and reopen EngineForge, your last active conversation is automatically loaded. This means you can pick up exactly where you left off without needing to manually restore anything.
